Am I a Quitter if I Change My Niche???
Okay, babe, so you aren’t sure whether you should change your business path or if it feels too much like quitting… You’re stuck and confused!
Maybe my point of view (and experience, lots and lots of “pivoting” experience!) can help you navigate this without sacrificing your nervous system health!
First of all, if you are a spiritual babe, you are probably familiar with phrases like “the most aligned path” or “it no longer was in alignment with my purpose,” let’s shine some light on these concepts:
Aligned Definition:
To bring into line or alignment
Or
To be in or come into precise adjustment or correct relative position
When I say “Aligned Pivot” (which I will, I promise), I mean a change that is lined up precisely with who you are, what you are meant to do, what you are passionate about, and where you want to end up with your business/life. Got it?
Nice. Now, let’s look at quitting…
Quitting
Quitting is the act of saying “f*ck this I no longer want this to exist in my life, I want out.”
Okay, maybe that’s not the Webster's Dictionary definition, but let’s roll with my version for the sake of this blog post.
How Do I Know If I’m Quitting or Re-Aligning? What Do I Do?
Here is how I see it:
If it feels like a pivot for the right reasons, you should do it! (I’ll dive deeper, don’t worry 😉)
When you are QUITTING because it’s hard, maybe you are giving up too fast, girl…
So, how do you know what you are doing?
➡️ Changing your niche FROM something you LOVE because things got hard or you haven’t seen the results you wanted yet ( e.g., IG growth is slow or your offer isn’t popping off) is giving up… (hear me out on the next point, though!)
➡️ Changing your niche because what you have been doing NO longer resonates with you and you want to do something you’re MORE passionate about, either because you weren’t lined up with your purpose the first time (or times) or your purpose evolved and changed …that IS an aligned pivot! ✨
God, universe, or your higher self would never ask you to stay in a niche or career that drains the life out of you just so you don’t become a “quitter,” nah.
✨ We deserve to do things that set our soul on fire! Plus, our clients and dream clients need us to come at it from this place of being so deeply heart-centered and passionate that we can’t help but serve them! ✨
None of that happens if we quit doing the work of our souls and abandon our soulmate clients…
And none of that happens if we stay stuck in a niche that wasn’t meant for us, that no longer lights our soul on freaking fire…
My Pivot Story
I actually started my entrepreneur journey as a hairdresser owning a salon biz with my husband, thought it was my forever thing. Money was good. Hours, good. Clients, awesome!
At first, I would get little whispers that it was time to change paths, like the desire to travel (but not wanting to leave clients too long) or feeling something online would be so liberating…
Then I started getting even more health conscious and started de-chemicaling my personal life. Natural cleaners, all organic produce, and natural body care and hair care products. Everything else went in the trash…
Started feeling like a double life, recommending the very products I threw away and exposing myself to LOTS of chemicals at work… I was starting to realize something wasn’t lining up anymore.
Then things really changed… I got exposed to toxic black mold at the condo I was living in to save up for my first house… my life fell apart.
I got too sick to work full time at the salon and developed some major chemical sensitivities (hey, whispers, were you trying to tell me something?)
For my first “pivot,” I decided I would open a boutique and sell my art (spoiler that didn’t happen)
I played around with a lot of “safe ideas” like selling wire wrap sun catchers or linoleum prints (hey, I’m multi-passionate, what can I say?)
EVENTUALLY (give me some credit I was going through a major health crisis and a world wide pandem*c ). I decided my first real niche - Healing anxiety for anxious women who felt lost; because I dealt with a lot of anxiety on my healing from mold journey.
Then my panic attacks started coming back, and the pressure of helping other women heal anxiety in the midst of my anxiety… made me quit. Like QUIT quit. Before I even started taking real clients (paid ones, at least).
Back to hair. Part time.
Then, I found my power again and decided I NEEDED to find and follow my purpose.
It's funny that it turns out that helping other women find their purpose and monetize it so they can get paid to do what sets their souls on fire… is MY PURPOSE.
Now, I feel so much more inspired to create. I no longer feel like niche jumping (which I admittedly did a lot before I got to this place!), and I feel so much more confident in how I show up in my business.
Final Purpose Career Path Advice (for this blog)
Girl, if you love it and it aligns with who you are and what you want, don’t freaking quit! Become solution-oriented and believe your success will be inevitable the moment you decide it will be.
If there is something that is calling you onto a different path that LIGHTS UP YOUR SOUL like the fireworks on 4th of July… You feel it could be your purpose, and it excites the crap out of you… girl, get it.
NEXT Steps on Your Aligned Pivot
✨As you pivot, I would ask yourself these five questions:
1️⃣ Who do I want to show up as?
2️⃣ What EXACTLY do I want to do? (What is my purpose? What desire/problem do I solve?)
3️⃣ Who EXACTLY do I want to help? (Who is my dream client, and what are their pain points, desires, roadblocks, and other psychographics)
4️⃣ Why do I want to do this? (Create a solid reason why you chose this client/niche to keep you accountable + serving from a heart-centered place)
5️⃣ How are you going to help them? (What method or modalities will you use to get your client from where they are now to where they DESIRE to be).
I hope those steps help you, gorgeous!
Niching deep is a lot of inner work and decisions, but it is so beyond worth it moving forward knowing your exact purpose and the clients you are meant to serve! 😘✨
